MOSCOW, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Four people were killed in a traffic accident involving a passenger vehicle and a truck in Russia's Sverdlovsk region on Sunday, regional traffic police said.

The accident happened at about 4:30 p.m. local time (1130 GMT) on a road to the town of Nizhniye Sergi, according to the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the region.

Preliminary information indicates that a Volvo truck collided with a Land Rover passenger vehicle. The driver of the Land Rover and three passengers died at the scene before emergency medical personnel arrived, the traffic police said.

Further investigation is underway to determine the circumstances of the accident and identify the victims, according to the statement. ■
